Pilot Mountain Hiking

Pilot Mountain is composed mainly of quartzite and so it has resisted the forces of erosion that have sent all of the earth around it to the sea long go. Its steep conical summit rises high above the surroundings and can be seen from many viewpoints along the Blue Ridge Parkway and in the Pisgah Ranger District. The very tops of Pilot and Green Mountains are rounded hill-tops that are easy to climb depending on the route the lower slopes may be more difficult.
