South Rim Trail
The South Rim Trail is done as a loop.
South rim trail. You can hike for a while then hop on the bus for a bit of a rest then hike some more if you want. You can hike the full length of the trail from Mather Point to Hermits Rest but if you want a shorter hike you can. Rim Trail South travels approximately 38 miles in a Northerly direction before intersecting Sinclair Road and tying into the Rim Trail North.
Between Pipe Creek Vista and Bright Angel Lodge only a few short sections of the trail have grades that exceed accessibility standards. The South Rim Trail begins on the south side of Chittenden Bridge. This hike is entirely paved and only has some small gradual ups and downs.
The hike seems a bit longer than marked but is really enjoyable. If you do it counter-clockwise it is a slow gradual climb up to the South Rim on the Laguna Meadows Trail. Its reasonably level with shade along the way.
It follows the mighty Yellowstone River 18 miles downstream past impressive views of both Upper Falls and Lower Falls of the Yellowstone and ends near spectacular Artist Point. Multiple shuttle bus stops along the way allow you. A shorter version of the full Rim Trail Loop Rim Trail South offers incredible views of Snowmass Village and the surrounding mountains and valleys.

The river rolls and churns as it approaches the drop into the. The Rim Trail stretches from the South Kaibab Trailhead west to Hermits Rest a distance of approximately thirteen miles 21 km most of the trail is paved. There are multiple spots along the rim for taking photos.
